Kevin A. Elsenheimer was born August 21, 1965 and raised in Traverse City.  He and his wife Ann live in Bellaire with their three children -- Emma, Noah and Jacob.  Kevin graduated from Traverse City Central High School and attended Northwestern Michigan College, where he received an Associates of Arts degree.  He then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1987 studying Psychology, History and Philosophy. 
 
Kevin continued his education at Wayne State University Law School where he obtained his Law Degree.  While in law school, Kevin served as a Student Attorney for Legal Services of Northern Michigan and Lakeshore Legal Services.  He was also a founding member of the Wayne State University Environmental Law Society.
 
Immediately following his education, Kevin was hired as an assistant prosecutor for Antrim County, where he handled a variety of criminal and civil cases.  After successful service in the Antrim County Prosecutor’s office, Kevin formed a law firm with two former Antrim County prosecuting attorneys.  Graham, Elsenheimer & Wendling PC currently employs six attorneys and an office staff of three.  The law firm focuses on the representation of municipal entities throughout Michigan. Kevin remains an active member of the State Bar of Michigan.
 
Kevin was elected trustee of Bellaire Public Schools in 1998 and was re-elected in 2002, but stepped down from the seat to run for the State Legislature in 2004.  Kevin joined the Michigan Legislature in 2005 and was elected Associate Speaker Pro Tempore of the 93rd Legislature by his colleagues.  During his first term in office, he was appointed to five standing policy committees, as served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Tort Reform.  He also passed 19 bills during his first term in office. 
 
In 2006, Kevin was reelected to the Michigan House and was chosen by his colleagues to serve as the Assistant Minority Leader, the second highest leadership position within his caucus and served as a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
 
In 2008, Kevin was reelected to the Michigan House for his third and final term. He was chosen by his colleagues to serve as the House Minority Leader, the highest position within his caucus. He and his family attend St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Bellaire.  A member of the NRA and MCRGO, he is an avid sportsman and enjoys outdoor recreational activities and time spent with his family.
