About the Probate Court Judicial ElectionIn November 2nd's general election, Leelanau County voters will have the opportunity to elect their new Probate Court judge. Probate Court Judges are elected on a nonpartisan ballot for six-year terms.
A Probate Judge handles estates, trusts, guardianships, commitment of the mentally ill and conservatorships, and also hears cases assigned from the Family Division of Circuit Court. These include adoption, child protective proceedings, divorce, parenting time, custody, child/spousal support, paternity, emancipation, juvenile delinquency and Personal Protection Orders.
