Larry Nelson was born and raised in Leelanau County. He graduated from Leland High School in 1965, as did his wife, Connie. Their sons, Geoff and Ben, and their five grandchildren reside in the county as well. Larry has over 33 years of courtroom experience.
Professional Experience: Former Leelanau County Prosecutor; Former Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Leelanau and Oakland Counties; Public Administrator for Leelanau County, 1981-present; served as Acting Public Administrator for Grand Traverse and Benzie Counties; held Indigent Probate Contract, 1981-1987; held Indigent Criminal Contract for Misdemeanors and Felonies, 1981-1986; General Practice of Law in Leland, 1981-present.
Community Service: Member Leland Township Fire and Rescue Advisory Board; Member Leland Township Volunteer Fire Department Board (current Vice-President); Leland Public Schools Board of Education (10 years - 5 years as President); Sponsor Walk-to-Cure Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; Sponsor Leelanau Children's Center; Sponsor Leland Education Foundation; Sponsor Leelanau County Community Cultural Center; Former Member Rotary and Prospector's Club; Volunteer at Leelanau Christian Neighbors Food Pantry in Suttons Bay.
