Marian Kromkowski is a partner in the Suttons Bay law firm of Kromkowski & Posner, PC. Kromkowski graduated from Wayne State University Law School and Indiana University and has practiced law in the state of Michigan for 31 years.  She specializes in family law, mediation, and criminal law at the trial and appellate level.
 
Kromkowski has been a Domestic Relations Referee since 1993.  She was the first referee in Leelanau, Grand Traverse and Antrim Counties and continues as referee in the 28^th Circuit Court. A referee is a judicial officer managing a Family Court docket and conducting trials and motion hearings.  She is also a court approved Domestic Relations Mediator and has concluded over 300 mediations. In addition to mediation, Kromkowski is trained in Collaborative Divorce Practice. 
 
She is a member of the Referee Association of Michigan, the Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Antrim Bar Association, the Women Lawyer’s Association,  Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan, Michigan Association of Court Mediators, the Up North Collaborative Divorce Professionals and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She is on the board of the Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan.

Kromkowski explains that Probate Court is also responsible for cases from the Family Division of Circuit Court.  She noted “Whether it is wills, estates or guardianships, juvenile criminal matters, assisting the mentally infirm or custody, parenting time and child support, Probate/Family Court serves the most vulnerable in our county when they are in crisis. Most disputes resolve short of a trial; those that that do go onto trial are highly emotional and contentious.  My 17 years of judicial experience, calm temperament and careful application of the Constitution and Michigan statues has readied me to conduct these trials in a respectful, efficient and focused manner.”
 
Kromkowski and her husband Matthew Posner live in Suttons Bay and have three daughters, Esther, Claire and Ellen. This is her first bid for elected office.
